Waldies' Hardware store was founded by William Waldie in 1925 located at first on 8 Wellington St. It was called the Stratford Hardware Co. His son, Al Waldie joined him the same year. In 1932 the store changed its name to Waldies' Hardware. After serving in the army from 1939 to 1945 Al returned to take over his father‘s business in 1945.
After discharge from the RCAF Ted Middleton became an employee with a firm. In 1951 the business was moved to a larger store on 71 Wellington St. and in 1954, Waldie became a limited company with Al taking Ted Middleton as a partner. After 66 years in 1991 the business was closed.
