Heritage Homes and Architechture

The historical plaque program launched in February 2012 is sponsored by the Stratford-Perth County Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. It helps citizens and tourists connect with the history of the community by identifying with a plaque residential, commercial and other properties built pre-World War II. The program has been well received by residents and visitors. 

The Ontario Cottage is a style of house that was commonly built in 19th century Ontario, Canada. The Ontario cottage became popular in the 1820s and remained a common style until the end of that century. They were mainly built in rural and small town areas, less so in larger cities. This was the period in which European settlers first populated the interior of the province, and throughout it Ontario cottages are some of the oldest houses.  Stratford has plenty.  ACO Historical Plaque Properties

Heritage Stratford’s Blue Plaque Program celebrates the links between notable figures of the past and the buildings in which they lived and/or worked. Plaques are as much about the buildings/places in which people lived or worked as they are about the subjects being commemorated.
